Mack was founded in 1900 in Brooklyn, New York, by the Mack brothers, whose early products included buses and other commercial vehicles before trucks became the focus. The First World War made the rugged AC model's reputation, and British soldiers' fondness for the truck is credited with the bulldog nickname that became the brand's emblem. The Volvo Group acquired Mack in 2001.

Mack is known for vocational excellence in construction, refuse and heavy haul, with the Granite conventional a familiar sight on job sites and the Pinnacle and Anthem serving highway duty. Mack builds its own MP-series engines and offers the mDRIVE automated transmission, and the company engineers the major components to work together as one integrated truck.

Mack workshop manuals cover MP-series and earlier Mack engines, manual and mDRIVE transmissions, drive axles and inter-axle locks, air-brake systems with ABS and stability control, front and rear suspensions, steering, cab electrical systems and wiring diagrams.
