China Jialing Industry traces its history to a state arsenal founded in the 1870s, and turned to civilian motorcycle production as China's economy opened up. A technical cooperation agreement with Honda in the early 1980s gave the company access to modern small-displacement engineering, and Jialing became one of the country's largest and most influential manufacturers.

Jialing's simple 70 to 150 cc four-strokes sold in enormous numbers at home and were exported across Asia, Africa and Latin America. The JH70 in particular became a template for the small Chinese motorcycle industry that followed, and the company's military-industrial background supported large-volume, consistent production over many years. Many of these machines served as taxi and delivery bikes in developing markets.
