Leyland Motors grew from the Lancashire Steam Motor Company, founded in 1896 in the Lancashire town of Leyland. It became a leading British truck and bus manufacturer, merged into British Leyland in 1968, and its commercial vehicle interests later continued as Leyland DAF and, today, Leyland Trucks. Its vehicles carried freight, passengers and armed forces across five continents, and the company exported widely.
