Tecumseh engines powered American lawnmowers, snow throwers and garden equipment for decades before production ended in 2008. This page offers Tecumseh engine repair and service manuals covering two-stroke and four-stroke models, with carburettor, ignition and complete overhaul procedures plus specification tables.
Tecumseh Products was founded in 1934 in Tecumseh, Michigan, by Ray Herrick, initially manufacturing refrigeration compressors. The engine business grew after the company acquired the Lauson engine works in the 1950s, and for half a century Tecumseh ranked among the largest small-engine builders in North America. Production ceased in 2008 after bankruptcy, and parts support continues through specialists. Its engines were valued for simple, repairable design.
Tecumseh engines turned up everywhere: horizontal and vertical shaft four-strokes such as the H, HS, HM, TVS, OHH and VLV series on walk-behind mowers, riding tractors, snow throwers, tillers and generators, plus two-stroke models including the AH, AV, HSK and TC families. The company's Peerless transmission division supplied gearboxes to many equipment makers.
Because so many machines are still running these engines, the manuals here stay in constant use. They cover carburettor identification and adjustment, ignition and coil air-gap settings, governor linkage setup, recoil starters, compression testing and full strip-down and rebuild, with parts listings, torque values and specification tables throughout. Ignition timing procedures are included for both points and solid-state systems.
Home mechanics reviving a garden tractor, small-engine repair shops and collectors restoring vintage equipment all work from these documents. With clear diagrams and correct settings, keeping a Tecumseh-powered machine running is well within reach of any careful owner. Even a first-time engine builder can follow the exploded diagrams and settings.
