The Outboard Marine Corporation was formed in 1929 through the merger of outboard pioneers including Evinrude's ELTO company and the Lockwood-Ash Motor Company, and it later absorbed Johnson outboards in 1935. Based in Waukegan, Illinois, OMC grew into the world's largest maker of outboard motors and a major producer of boats, with brands such as Johnson, Evinrude, and Gale, along with boat lines and other leisure products.

OMC is remembered above all for the Johnson and Evinrude outboards that powered countless fishing boats, runabouts, and cruisers. The corporation also entered the snowmobile industry in the mid-1960s, introducing the Evinrude Skeeter and the Johnson Skee-Horse, and snowmobiles became one of its fastest-growing businesses in the late 1960s. Financial difficulties in later decades led to bankruptcy in December 2000, and the outboard brands were sold to Bombardier in 2001.

OMC workshop and service manuals cover the engines and equipment built under the corporation's brands, including two-stroke outboard powerheads, fuel and oiling systems, ignition and electrical components, and lower unit and gearcase service. Manuals include wiring diagrams, torque specifications, diagnostic procedures, and scheduled maintenance tables.

Owners of legacy Johnson and Evinrude motors, marine technicians, and collectors of vintage OMC outboards and sleds all benefit from these manuals, which preserve factory service knowledge for products out of production for decades. Because OMC products were sold in enormous numbers around the world, many vintage motors and sleds are still in service or being restored today.
