The first Ski-Doo was launched in 1959 by Joseph-Armand Bombardier in Valcourt, Quebec. The name came from a typographical error in a company brochure that changed Ski-Dog to Ski-Doo, and Bombardier decided the mistake was worth keeping. Early buyers included trappers, missionaries, prospectors, and surveyors, but recreational riders soon made the machine a commercial success and the name a Canadian icon.

Ski-Doo grew with memorable model families such as the Olympique, the long-running Elan produced from 1971 to 1996, and the Citation, and modern Ski-Doo sleds continue across trail, mountain, touring, and utility segments with names such as MXZ, Summit, Renegade, and Skandic. The brand has pioneered chassis design, including the REV platform introduced in 2003, and its Rotax two-stroke and four-stroke engines have long powered the line. Ski-Doo is today built by BRP, the company spun off from Bombardier in 2003. Ski-Doo machines were also part of the first verified overland expedition to reach the North Pole, in 1968.

Ski-Doo workshop manuals contain complete factory service procedures for engines, fuel and oil injection systems, continuously variable transmissions and chaincases, suspensions and skid frames, steering, and brakes, plus electrical systems and wiring diagrams, torque specifications, diagnostics, and scheduled maintenance tables. The manuals reflect a brand engineered continuously since 1959, with guidance suited to both modern and classic machines.
