Doosan's roots reach back to 1896, when Park Seung-jik opened what is regarded as Korea's first modern retail business. The group's heavy equipment came later, through Daewoo Heavy Industries & Machinery, which was renamed Doosan Infracore in 2005; its construction machinery division trades today as Develon. Doosan engines also serve marine and stationary applications, including diesel generating sets. Engine ranges and machine series evolved together over two decades of production.

The engine and machine range is wide. Diesel families such as the DB58 and the DL06, DL08 and DV11 engines power generators and machinery, while Solar, Mega and DX-series crawler excavators and Mega wheel loaders are at work on construction sites worldwide, many fitted with Doosan's own diesels. Common-rail diesel versions brought electronic controls to later machines.
