Derbi traces its history to 1922, when Simeó Rabasa i Singla opened a bicycle repair and frame-building business in Barcelona. The company, later known as Nacional Motor, moved into powered two-wheelers after the Second World War, and the name Derbi, derived from 'derivados de bicicletas', or derivatives of bicycles, became familiar across Spain and far beyond.
