The company began in 1954 as Ha Dong-hwan Motor Workshop, building buses and special-purpose vehicles, and took the Ssangyong name in 1988 after acquisition by the Ssangyong Group. It developed a specialty in sport utility vehicles, and after years of financial difficulties and changes of ownership the business was renamed KG Mobility in 2023, ending the Ssangyong brand.

Ssangyong models such as the Musso, Korando and Rexton used diesel engines and transmissions licensed from Mercedes-Benz, giving them unusual durability for their class. The Tivoli crossover of 2015 renewed the range under Mahindra ownership, and vehicles were exported widely, including pickup versions such as the Musso Sports and Actyon Sports. The Rexton became the flagship SUV and the Korando was renewed across several generations.

Ssangyong workshop manuals cover the licensed Mercedes-derived diesels and later petrol engines, manual and automatic transmissions, four-wheel-drive systems with low range, transfer cases, front and rear axles, ABS brakes and air conditioning, with wiring diagrams and diagnostic procedures. Torque values and maintenance schedules complete the coverage. Body sections and chassis torque data support structural and accident repairs.

Owners in Korea, Europe, Australia and other markets still run large numbers of these vehicles, and independent workshops value accurate documentation for engines no longer common in the market. Long-term owners and restorers use the manuals to keep older Korandos and Mussos serviceable. Owners' clubs share documentation to keep the remaining fleet on the road.
