Hyster is one of the world's best-known forklift and materials handling brands, with a history stretching back to 1920s America. This page offers downloadable Hyster service manuals and workshop manuals for forklifts, warehouse trucks and container handlers, covering engines, hydraulics, transmissions and electrical systems.
Hyster's origins lie in the timber industry of the Pacific Northwest, where the company's logging winches reportedly earned their name from workers calling 'hoist 'er' as loads were lifted. The Hyster Company was formed in 1929 and moved into forklift manufacturing during the 1940s, becoming a major American materials handling manufacturer based in Portland, Oregon.
Today Hyster is part of Hyster-Yale Group, alongside sister brand Yale, and its range covers electric counterbalance forklifts, internal-combustion trucks for tough outdoor work, reach trucks, pallet trucks, tow tractors and the heavy container handlers used in ports. Hyster equipment is recognized for durability in demanding applications such as lumber yards, steel works and shipping terminals.
Hyster service manuals detail the maintenance and repair of every major system: petrol, diesel, LP gas and electric power sources, transmissions and drive axles, hydraulic pumps, control valves and lift masts, brakes, steering and electrical circuits. Wiring diagrams, troubleshooting charts, torque values and lubrication schedules support both routine service and full component rebuilds.
These manuals are used by in-house maintenance teams, independent forklift technicians and plant managers responsible for fleet uptime. A documented service history also helps operators of used equipment verify specifications when fitting attachments or replacing components after many years in service. Attachments such as side shifters, rotators and clamps are also documented, so accessory hydraulics can be tested to factory values.
