The Massey story began in 1847 when Daniel Massey established the Newcastle Foundry in what is now Ontario, Canada, building threshing machines, and continued when his company merged with A. Harris, Son and Company in 1891 to form Massey-Harris. Massey-Harris became one of the largest agricultural equipment makers of its era, and by the late 1930s it had introduced one of the first commercially successful self-propelled combines.

Massey-Harris merged with Harry Ferguson's tractor company in 1953 to create the Massey-Harris-Ferguson organization, later simplified to Massey Ferguson. The combined marque was famous for Ferguson's three-point linkage system and produced tractors, combines and implements on both sides of the Atlantic, with petrol and diesel engines sourced from a variety of specialist builders over the years. Massey Ferguson remains an active global brand in agricultural machinery today.
