Bultaco was founded near Barcelona in 1958 when Francisco Xavier Bultó left Montesa, the company he had co-founded, after a disagreement over racing. The new firm immediately built two-stroke motorcycles with competition in mind, and within a few years its machines were winning at international level.

The Sherpa trials bike transformed motorcycle trials in the mid-1960s and brought Bultaco world championship titles in the discipline. The Metralla road bikes, Pursang motocrossers and Frontera enduro models extended the range, all powered by high-revving two-strokes. Production ended in the early 1980s, and later revival attempts produced only small numbers of electric machines.

Bultaco manuals cover two-stroke engine rebuilds, piston and port specification, carburetor jetting, ignition timing, clutch and gearbox service, and suspension set-up for trials and motocross use. Wiring diagrams and torque tables reflect period factory data, which is often the only reliable reference for engines now half a century old, and reed valve and expansion chamber work is part of routine preparation.

Bultacos are prized classics, and many still compete in historic trials and motocross where incorrect preparation shows immediately. Restorers, vintage racers and marque clubs across Europe and North America depend on accurate factory specifications for jetting, timing and assembly, making a proper manual as essential as the parts supply. Digital preservation of these books has kept the marque ridable decades after the factory closed.
