Citroen was founded in Paris in 1919 by Andre Citroen, a French engineer and industrialist who first made his name in gear manufacturing. It quickly became one of Europe's largest carmakers, and in 1976 it joined Peugeot to form the PSA group. Today the brand operates within Stellantis. Its double-chevron badge, drawn from the shape of its early gear teeth, is recognised worldwide.
