Jeep traces its roots to the WWII-era Willys MB and Ford GPW military 4x4 vehicles of 1941, followed by the civilian CJ line beginning with the CJ-2A in 1945. Ownership passed from Willys-Overland to Kaiser in 1953, then American Motors in 1970, and Chrysler in 1987; the brand is today part of Stellantis.

Jeep is known for the CJ series, the Wrangler in its YJ, TJ, JK and JL generations, the unibody Cherokee XJ introduced in 1984, the Grand Cherokee launched in 1993, and the Gladiator pickup.
